The WorldSkills UK Health and Social Care competition Finals will be held in the Birmingham NEC on the 17-19 November. It’s a great opportunity to support the next generation of carers and the atmosphere at the event which attracts over 70,000 visitors is electric.
This year we need one additional person to join a team of 8 judges. Able to take part on the Thursday and Friday competition days, accommodation is provided on Wednesday and Thursday nights along with transport between the hotel and the NEC. A full briefing will be provided in advance of the competition.
Main Duties:
- Manage competition areas in a safe and fair manner
- Prepare and tidy competition rooms with resources required prior to and after each competition activity
- Accurately and fairly judge competitors in regional and/or national competitions against prescribed criteria
- Demonstrate professional and focused behaviour when undertaking judging activity both inside and outside competition areas
- Familiarise self with competition tasks, briefs and marking schemes prior to competition activity
- Attend judges briefing sessions
- Participate in judges standardisation activity
- Pay attention to detail in order to differentiate quality performance against prescribed criteria
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with peer judges to agree results (principle competition room judge to arbitrate decisions regarding each activity)
- Account for and discuss judging decisions – in cases of disagreement the final decision will be made by the lead judge
- Clearly and accurately complete marking schedules and scoring sheets meeting time schedules, checking scoring and results
- Articulate supportive and constructive comments about competitors performance
- Remain in competition area until all judges marks have been ratified
- Support competition organisers and lead judge as required
- Keep competition information, results and comments confidential
Qualifications:
Essential: Level 3 or above in adult social care or health disciplines
Preferable: Level 3 or above Teaching, Learning and Development, assessing qualifications or experience of assisting with workforce development
Knowledge:
- Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification content and competencies
- Health and Social Care job roles and career pathways
- Health and Social Care Sector Codes of Practice
- Current Health and Social Care best practice guidance
Experience and Skills:
- At least 2 years experience of Working, Volunteering or Caring in an adult health and social care setting
- Experience of workforce development, education, training and development
- Record of using reflective practice to develop individuals
